How do I enable Bypass Mode on my Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired?

This article applies to:

AVD1001

If your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired isn’t working as expected, even though the voltage level of your doorbell transformer is 16-24V AC, you might need to activate bypass mode on your Power Kit. When bypass mode is turned on, your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired is not electrically connected to your doorbell chime. This prevents your doorbell chime from ringing when someone presses your doorbell.

Before you begin

You should turn on bypass mode if:

  • Your doorbell chime rings or buzzes at unexpected times, while your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired is operating.
  • The LED on the front of your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired is amber during initial setup.
  • You upgraded your transformer to provide 16-24V AC, but your existing chime is rated for a lower voltage.

Enable bypass mode

To activate bypass mode on your Arlo Power Kit:

  1. Turn off your power at the breaker.
  2. Remove the cover from your doorbell chime.
  3. Locate the Arlo Power Kit that is attached to your doorbell chime.
  4. Move the switch on your Arlo Power Kit to Bypass Mode, marked by the “X” on the Power Kit.
  5. Turn your power back on at the breaker.
  6. Turn off the traditional chime setting in the Arlo app.
    1. Launch the Arlo app.
    2. Tap Settings > My Devices.
    3. Select your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired.
    4. Tap Traditional Chime > None.

Your Arlo Power Kit now bypasses your doorbell chime. Your doorbell chime will not ring when someone presses your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired.

If your Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired still doesn’t function correctly after activating bypass mode, you might need to consult an electrician to confirm the voltage and power available to your doorbell.
